Where the Listings Come from

How We Estimate Costs

We do not survey prices or copy other sites' numbers. Instead we start from public wage data and apply typical business costs:

  1. Wages: U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, Occupational Employment and Wage Statistics (OEWS), May 2024: state median hourly wage for maids and housekeeping cleaners (SOC 37-2012) and janitors (37-2011). The U.S. employment-weighted median for maids is about $16.53/hour. We add 8% for wage growth to 2026.
  2. Price per cleaner-hour: independent cleaners about 1.3–1.9 times the wage; cleaning companies about 3.0–4.5 times (payroll taxes, insurance, bonding, supplies, travel, scheduling, unpaid time between jobs and profit); commercial janitorial about 2.2–3.2 times the janitor wage.
  3. Job time: a standard home clean takes about 0.5 cleaner-hours plus 1 hour per 600 square feet; deep cleans about 1.6 times that, move-out cleans about 1.9 times.
  4. Specialty services (carpet per room, windows, pressure washing) use typical national price ranges published by home-service pricing guides in 2025–2026, scaled by each state's wage level.

The results are ranges for planning, not quotes. Last reviewed October 27, 2026.
